Michael is news editor of Physics World magazine, the monthly member publication from the UK’s Institute of Physics, and is based in Bristol, UK.

Over the past decade, he has covered the latest breakthroughs in physics, reporting from countries such as China, Japan, South Korea and the US. He has written and edited a range of article types from news and analysis to features and blogs as well as recorded podcasts.

Michael has also given talks about science journalism around the world, including China and Japan.

Before working at Physics World, Michael did a PhD in condensed-matter physics at the Max Planck Institute for Solid State Physics in Stuttgart, Germany.

In addition to Physics World, Michael has written for Nature, BBC Focus and Science Uncovered as well as appeared on BBC Radio 4.
